Flirting with another version of my type in the neighborhood next to mine I buy a $12 loaf of bread despite my gluten intolerance and find out that the bread guy is partnered anyway. Oh well. The night I downloaded this dating app and this incredibly hot person I recognized from Instagram liked me. I don’t actually know who he is but there’s a photographer I follow and this person models for them quite a bit. I met the photographer once while I was dating that person in Flatbush last fall, we were in our pajamas eating Honey Nut Cheerios and suddenly their rent-stabilized bathroom was full of set lights and everyone’s shirts were off. I followed the photographer after that and now I keep seeing incredibly attractive queer people from all over Brooklyn all over Instagram. When I messaged the hot Instagram stranger on the app my opening line was about some vintage-looking necklace in a photo of theirs so I think I might’ve killed the spark. Oh well. Every time I say something odd and irrelevant as a come-on - instead of feeling regret, I pretend it’s because I have a secret motive. In this case, I found it funny to imagine myself as a character whose main source of income was from reselling vintage jewelry, and the way I found all the best pieces was by scrolling through people's dating profiles and asking about their family's stories. Feigning interest for professional gain.
